Our latest job is a full retrofit on 7 double hung windows (6/1) on a 1907 house in Montpelier. These sashes are 1-3/8th in thick and made for sash weights, but the jamb opening do not have weight cavities, which suggests that they were put in at a later date to replace the original windows.

The invisible balance insert into the sides of the sash and work well in windows this thick. They areĀ  a good alternative to vinyl jamb liners that often clash with historic look of old windows.
